Touch history: Visitors can handle rare documents from nation’s founding in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, a collection of documents from the American founding will be on display this week at DeVos Place, offering visitors a rare chance to handle history firsthand.

The exhibit, hosted by the Acton Institute, features more than 40 items, including a first-edition copy of the U.S. Constitution from 1788 that officials say is one of five known copies in existence.

Early editions of the Declaration of Independence, the Stamp Act and writings by Thomas Jefferson and John Adams will also be on display beginning Tuesday…
