GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Procedural missteps at the drug trial of a man charged in a record Grand Rapids cocaine bust has resulted in a sentence even the judge called “a tremendous gift” for the defendant.
Timothy Gant, arrested in 2023 in a probe that netted 81 pounds of cocaine, had been facing up to life in prison. Instead, the four-time convicted felon will be getting out of jail before the snow falls.

Kent County Circuit Court Judge Christina Mims, honoring a plea agreement, sentenced Gant to a year in the Kent County jail with credit for 220 days already served.
He was brought back to Grand Rapids in December after cutting off an electronic tether and fleeing the state of Michigan, officials said.
