GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A case against a Rockford man who is accused of running over his girlfriend’s estranged husband is moving forward.
Thomas Patrick Olman, 49, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 49-year-old John Ryan Joyce.
The charges date back to the night of Dec. 11, when Olman’s own dashboard camera recorded him striking Joyce, the estranged husband of a woman Olman was dating. The collision happened near the home Joyce still shared with his soon-to-be-ex-wife on Gibraltar NE off 10 Mile Road. Authorities previously said Joyce suffered several injuries, including a fractured pelvis, lumbar vertebrae and ribs.

Joyce had limited mobility after the crash but was on the verge of getting off crutches in March, when a blood clot from his leg traveled to his lungs, killing him.
“I determined the cause of death, the immediate cause, was blood clots in the lungs. And I opined the manner of death as homicide,” Kent County Medical Examiner Dr. Stephen Cohle testified at the Wednesday hearing.
