EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A Kent County judge has sided with a group of residents in a lawsuit against the city of East Grand Rapids over a large-scale development project proposed in Gaslight Village.
On Monday, Aug. 10, Circuit Judge George Jay Quist ruled that the East Grand Rapids City Commission’s narrow approval of the project’s concept plan last fall was null and void because the commission did not vote by a supermajority.
The judge’s ruling means that any approvals made by the city since October 2025 are now invalid, said attorney Christopher Zadarsky, who represented the resident group in the lawsuit. This includes the planning commission’s recent approval of final site plans for phase one of the project…
