STANWOOD — On July 25, about 10:15 p.m., a two-vehicle crash near downtown Stanwood sent three people to the hospital, including a 17-year-old who was airlifted to Grand Rapids with serious injuries.
The crash happened at the intersection of Northland Drive and 8 Mile Road, about a mile east of U.S. 131. Initial police reports stated that a 56-year-old Caledonia man driving west on 8 Mile Road failed to yield the right-of-way before his vehicle struck a vehicle driven south on Northland Drive by a 17-year-old from Morley.
From 2021 through 2025, the intersection has been the site of 42 crashes, a 68% increase from the 25 crashes the previous five years, according to the database at michigantrafficcrashfacts.org. In fact, over the last 22 years, the number of crashes has more than doubled, from 36 crashes in 2004-2014 to 74 crashes in 2015-2025…
