The severe weather risk in Michigan has increased as a potential squall line may run across the state early this afternoon.
The NOAA Storm Prediction Center has increased the chances of severe weather on Thursday, Sept. 3, as a squall line is expected to push over the region by the afternoon time period. Currently, there is a slight risk of severe weather across much of the lower half of the Lower Peninsula. This slight risk stretches up to Manistee and covers Big Rapids, Mount Pleasant and Midland, covering the rest of the state south of this line.
The main threat is severe winds for the region, with the SPC giving the slight risk region a 15% wind risk. The worst of that is expected to be over the Detroit area.
There is a low end (5%) hail risk for the region and there is not a listed tornado threat for the day. There will likely be multiple rounds of storms on the day, with one round hitting the Lansing area at the time of writing…
