GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The victim of a deadly weekend assault in Grand Rapids has been identified by police.
Nnaemeka Basil Okonkwo, 48, was identified as the man who was killed in an assault Sunday morning on the northwest side, the Grand Rapids Police Department said.

His death was ruled a homicide. GRPD is investigating.
The assault happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Bridge Street NW and National Avenue NW. GRPD responded to the scene to find Okonkwo with “sounds consistent with an assault.” They tried to save his life but he was declared dead at the scene…
