A Bible and teddy bears: Inside the home of an undocumented worker who died fleeing ICE

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Inside a second-floor apartment on the backside of a southwest Grand Rapids home, a handful of men convened for a somber task Sunday afternoon.

It’s been one week since Mario Coronado Juarez, 36, died while fleeing an ICE traffic stop; his friends and family had gathered to clear out the room the husband and father from Guatemala had been renting.

Coranado Juarez had been working – undocumented – as a drywaller in Grand Rapids so he could send money back to his wife and three children in Guatemala.

“It’s really difficult, but the family has decided that it’s time to clean up his room and pick up his personal belongings,” Karla Barberi told Target 8. “It’s just really sad because they have to go through his personal life and decide what goes to the trash and what possibly could be sent home to his family.”…
