Davenport and Michigan Tech will start November with a highly-anticipated contest on Saturday with conference and playoff implications at stake. Ferris State took one step closer to the GLIAC title handing Davenport their first loss of the season last Saturday (23-14) in Big Rapids. DU and MTU are both tied for second in the conference at 4-1 and a win this week would go a long way in helping secure a postseason berth. Michigan Tech is ranked No. 4 in Super Region 3 this week, while Davenport sits at No. 5.

Last week’s top 10 showdown against No. 1 Ferris State proved to be a game that lived up to the pregame hype. The Calder City Classic was an intense, hard-hitting affair that saw the Bulldogs make enough key plays to secure the nine-point victory. The Panthers trailed for the first time all season, 7-0, at 9:33 of the first quarter after a Jake Price 10-yard touchdown run on the Bulldogs first possession. Cephus Harris would tie the game at 7-7 in the second quarter at the 7:13 mark on a four-yard run. FSU capitalized on an interception and one play later, Chase Carter carried for a 34-yard TD to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead. Davenport wasted little time in the third quarter tying the game on a 69-yard Harris touchdown to make it 14-14. Eoin O’Sullivan connected on a 40-yard field goal on the next drive by Ferris State to make it 17-14 at the 9:26 mark. The defenses took over over the next several drives, but FSU had one more scoring drive in them. They went 96 yards in 10 plays as Taariik Brett caught a 29-yard pass from Carter and raced into the end zone. The PAT was missed and DU trailed 23-14. The Panthers mounted one more scoring threat, but on 3rd-and-goal from the 7-yard line with under two minutes to play, Ryan Ahern intercepted a pass near the goal line. DU outgained FSU, 312-259, with 236 yards on the ground. Harris finished with 162 yards and two scores on 32 carries. James Young was 8-of-16 passing for 76 yards. Mac VandenHout caught five passes for 41 yards to lead the receiving corps. Darryle Geter recorded a career-high nine tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. D’Angelo Bellamy registered eight tackles with a two-yard sack in the fourth quarter.

Michigan Tech reached the seven-win plateau for the third straight season last Saturday with a 27-20 road win against Saginaw Valley State. The first four scores were field goals as Avery Kucharski booted a pair in the first half to give the Huskies a 6-0 lead. Teagen Lenderink connected twice from 21 yards out to end the first half and again from 31 yards away with 9:54 remaining in the third quarter. Alex Bueno’s one-yard TD run at 6:02 of the third quarter made it 13-6 to favor of MTU. The Cardinals answered on a 34-yard TD run by Obie Sanni to tie it at 13-13 with 4:16 left in the third. The Huskies made a special teams play with a blocked punt and a 11-yard return for a score by Jadon Bender to regain a 20-13 lead. SVSU once again tied it up at 20-20 after a Connor Wolf to Jamison Pelt touchdown connection with 4:01 left in the game covering 13 yards. MTU marched 71 yards in six plays for the winning score as Jake Rueff’s two-yard run with 1:51 to play was the final points. SVSU ourgained MTU, 366-251, and neither team committed a turnover…
