Police: Man who threw hot coffee in robbery arrested

HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 22-year-old has been charged in a robbery where deputies say he threw hot coffee in a gas station employee’s face.

Austin Buter of Zeeland was charged with unarmed robbery as a fourth time habitual offender Wednesday.

The charges stem from the early hours of Christmas Day , when Ottawa County deputies say Buter walked into the Oasis Mobil Mart on Adams Street between 96th Avenue and Black River Drive in Holland Township. He poured himself a cup of coffee and brought it to the counter. Instead of paying, he threw the coffee in the cashier’s face and then stole the till from the cash register then fled the scene, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies investigated and eventually identified Buter, arresting him on Tuesday. He is being held  at the Ottawa County Jail on a $25,000 bond.

The employee was burned on her chest and neck but has since made a full recovery, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.
