Grand Haven stores offer deals at indoor sidewalk sales

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — As people head to Grand Haven this weekend for the city’s Winterfest, they can also find deals at the local stores.

Around 20 shops are participating in this year’s indoor sidewalk sales, more than last year, MACkite store manager Caleb Berko told News 8. The indoor sidewalk sales were started two decades ago by Lary Galombeck, who owned The Dockside Shop.

“He was really good at grabbing everybody and bringing the community together here downtown … on the merchant retailer side,” Berko said

MACkite owner Lynn Negen has since continued the tradition. In recent years, the sales started taking place during Grand Haven’s Winterfest, which kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday.

“It’s a good opportunity for people to come down and enjoy their favorite Winterfest activities, whether that’s the cardboard sled race that happens on Saturday or the Euchre tournament,” Berko said. “(There’s a) variety of opportunities and winter experiences which are really fun, and then people can come downtown and shop, which is really fun too.”
