GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Former Grand Rapids police Officer Christopher Schurr fatally shot Black motorist Patrick Lyoya after an April 4, 2022, traffic stop captured on video. Lyoya’s supporters called it a cold-blooded killing. The officer’s gun was fired just inches from the back of Lyoya’s head.
