Kirk Cousins helps Hope students earn extra credit

HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A young woman from Florida who is a student at Hope College didn’t even know who Kirk Cousins was a few days ago. She now has a newfound appreciation for the NFL player from West Michigan and extra credit in her sports communication class, thanks to her professor and classmate.

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, Hannah Pearce and Breck McCloskey were working out at the campus gym when they saw Cousins. Then, they went back to class and told their professor, Patrick Gentile.

“I thought it would have been so cool to bring him into one of my sports comm classes… and they made it happen,” said Gentile.

The students went back to the gym with the promise of extra credit if they could convince Cousins to stop by their classroom. The students found him at his car outside the gym and said it was an easy sell.

“I knocked on his window, and I was like, ‘Our professor said we could get extra credit if we bring you back to class. Are you willing to go?’ Then he was like, ‘Yes, of course.’ Breck and I kind of motioned towards Martha Miller and said we’d meet him over there. That’s our homeroom. He was like, ‘Oh, no, get in. It’s raining. It’s fine. I’ll drive you to class,’” said Pearce.
