Deputies: 21-year-old killed in crash near Sparta

ALGOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One man was killed and another was injured in a crash in Algoma Township Thursday evening, deputies say.

Around 5 p.m., a 21-year-old Gowen man driving a Ford Fusion was headed east on Indian Lakes Road and ran the stop sign at Pine Island Drive. He crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 69-year-old Belmont man, which was headed south, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office said.

First responders tried to save the 21-year-old’s life but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the sheriff’s office.

Michigan State Police, Algoma Fire Department, Rockford Ambulance and AeroMed helped the Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
