HOLLAND — The total cost to utilize Holland’s new fiber internet service has been announced.
The rates, approved during a Holland City Council meeting Wednesday, offer two gigabits-per-second for $45 a month and 10 gigabits-per-second for $125 a month. That cost includes the modem, router and installation.
The service is offered through the Holland Board of Public Works and will be available throughout the city, though it’ll roll out in zones called “fiberhoods” as the network is built.
In his report to council, Holland BPW General Manager Dave Koster said the internet service rates and fees were set following research into costs and overall expenses.
There will be additional service options for customers, including mesh extenders for $5 a month, additional IP addresses for $3 each per month, and an optional enhanced service package with 24/7 support for an additional $150 a month.
The expansion of the community-owned broadband network was made possible after citizens voted to invest in a bond in 2022. Taxpayers will pay off the debt created by the bond with a property tax millage, which hasn’t taken effect yet. Residents will see the millage on their summer property tax bill this year.
