21-year-old Tennessee man arrested for trying to enroll at Northern Michigan high school in order to date minor

MASON COUNTY, Mich. (WWJ) — A 21-year-old Tennessee man is behind bars in Northern Michigan after allegedly trying to enroll in a local high school in an attempt to date a minor.

Kevin Flick of Fort Campbell, Tenn., was arraigned Thursday on charges of child sexually abusive activity, child sexually abusive material possession and two counts of using a computer to commit a crime, according to a report from 9 & 10 News .

Flick allegedly flew from Tennessee to Grand Rapids and then drove to Mason County to meet the victim, whom he had met online, according to the report. The student’s age has not been released.

An employee at Mason County Central High School in Scottville — just east of Ludington — called the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday after they “became suspicious when the man tried to enroll,” according to the report.

“Although I wished this series of events never unfolded, I couldn’t be more proud of the MCC employees, Deputy Postma, and our detectives,” Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole said, according to the report. “I would strongly encourage parents to have conversations with their children about the dangers of on-line chatting and the sharing of information over the internet or social media platforms.”
