GAINES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Deputies say a Detroit man is facing charges after a stolen car was found in Gaines Township.
On Wednesday evening, a deputy found a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Meijer in Gaines Township, according to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. The office says the vehicle had been stolen from Waterford Township in Oakland County.
When a man returned to the stolen vehicle, deputies stopped him.
Investigators then learned the man had stolen from stores in Grand Rapids Township and Lansing, according to the sheriff’s office.
The 26-year-old Detroit man, whose name was not released Thursday, was arrested and faces charges of possessing a stolen vehicle, according to KCSO. Authorities are also seeking charges for the other thefts, which deputies believe totaled more than $550.
The sheriff’s office says stolen cars are often used in other crimes. If your license plate is stolen or if you see suspicious activity, you’re asked to contact law enforcement.
