Cassie Atkinson, a second-grade teacher in Godwin Heights, noticed her student, Aria Brown, was often absent or late. She discovered that Aria’s family had moved and their car was broken, causing transportation issues.

Atkinson, whose husband Towner is a mechanic, sought help from his colleagues at Community Automotive Repair. One colleague offered his son’s 1999 Volvo S80 to Aria’s mother, Alicia Cole.

The Godwin community, upon learning about the family’s situation, contributed to the cause. Towner Atkinson repaired the car, and donations allowed for additional repairs and gas cards for the family.

Cole expressed her gratitude, stating, ‘I’m grateful for the support of good people in times of need.’ Atkinson also acknowledged the challenge of finding a car but was not surprised by the community’s support.

She stated, ‘This community is supportive. If someone is struggling, they help. It was rewarding to be a part of this.’ This story underscores the impact of community support and individual initiative.
