Two West Michigan credit unions announce planned merger

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two West Michigan credit unions plan on merging.

Bloom Credit Union, which has locations in Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Georgetown Township and Coopersville, and West Michigan Credit Union, which has locations in Grand Rapids, Big Rapids, Reed City, Cadillac and Manistee, on Tuesday announced the merger plans.

The merger will take place in April 2025 if it receives regulatory approval and approval from Bloom Credit Union members, the two said in a release.

Bloom Credit Union CEO Joe Heintskill would serve as the organization’s CEO, and West Michigan Credit Union CEO William Keim would serve as the president.

All branches are set to remain open, and none of the combined 125 employees will lose their jobs, the credit unions say.

“In fact, it’s more likely that we will be adding new positions over time,” Heintskill said in the release. “Our members will continue to see the same familiar faces at their neighborhood branch.”

The two CEOs said the partnership will benefit its members and employees in a competitive industry.
