10th annual Freedom Cruise to honor local Marine killed in California

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — U.S. Marine Capt. Miguel Nava, who died earlier this year in a military training exercise, will be honored by his high school Friday during the 10th annual Freedom Cruise.

“Bringing the community together to honor this patriot is important on so many levels,” said Tom Antor, organizer of the event. “And this has special meaning because of his ties to Comstock Park.”

Each year, the Freedom Cruise hosts an honor procession, which includes a limousine bus with Gold Star families and World War II veterans. The bus is escorted by local law enforcement, area fire departments and scores of motorcyclists representing the Patriot Guard and American Legion riders.

Friday’s procession begins mid-morning and will cover about 60 miles. It will drive by schools in Cedar Springs, Kent City and the Comstock Park district before finishing at Comstock Park High School.
