Barn total loss after fire that killed family dog

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A Cascade Township barn is a total loss following a Friday night fire that killed the family dog, authorities said.

Around 11:10 p.m., crews with the Cascade Township Fire Department were sent to the area of 52nd Street SE near Whitneyville Avenue SE for a barn fire.

The fire department said that the barn was a total loss.

Crews were able to save 42 cows, a few dozen pigs and chickens, however, the family dog was killed, the fire department said.

It’s unclear what caused the fire. The fire department said crews were still on the scene nearly 12 hours after receiving the call.

The fire remains under investigation.
