HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A man in Holland is officially 100 years old and his family and friends held a large celebration for him Saturday to celebrate this milestone.
Robert Weber turned 100 on Friday, and on Saturday he will be surrounded by loved ones at his home at Freedom Village in Holland. Weber said he has been living there since the building opened.
He is from Illinois but moved to Michigan after retiring as a teacher because he and his wife wanted to live at Freedom Village.
Weber holds many titles in his life including father, grandpa, great grandpa, life-long learner, adventurer and veteran.
He served in World War II and was drafted when he was 20. In 1944 he was sent to France and was a part of the 10 th Armored Division in the 54 th Armored Infantry Battalion. He fought in the war for 32 months throughout Europe and was in the Battle of the Bulge. Weber received many awards from his time in the war, including the Bronze Star and the French Legion of Honor.
Weber said he is proud to be a veteran and that the secret to getting to 100, besides being curious and eating rhubarb, is to just enjoy life.
