Nick Fink’s, GR’s oldest bar, reopens Monday

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A historic bar in Comstock Park is making its return after being closed for around three years.

Nick Fink’s is reopening Monday after having to close in 2021. The bar is owned by the Gilmore Collective. Matt Dowdy, the director of marketing creative for the company, said the closure of Nick Fink’s was because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The bar has been around since 1888, making it likely the oldest bar in the Grand Rapids area. Nick Fink’s has a rich history with people like Ernest Hemingway and potentially even Al Capone stopping into the bar. The bar is also a huge part of the Comstock Park neighborhood, with many residents asking for Nick Fink’s to open back up.

“I think that it’s important for us to remember our history, to remember the character of these beautiful locations like Nick Fink’s and others in the Gilmore Collection and around West Michigan as well,” Dowdy said. “I think by honoring those traditions and those historic spaces, we were able to share the way life was like with future generations.”
