GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Two West Michigan housing projects have received funding from the state.

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority Board has approved funding for six affordable housing projects. In Grand Rapids, $16.6 million is set to go toward building the 1309 Madison Apartments project.

The project will include 45 housing units across two buildings, with a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments. Three of the apartments will be accessible units.

The project will be for those making between 30% to 80% of the area median income.

In Allegan County, Mystic View Apartments in Pullman is receiving $9.1 million to renovate its 40-unit development.

The funding comes as West Michigan, like the rest of the state, faces a housing crisis. Kent County needs to add 35,000 housing units, while Allegan County is facing a gap of around 6,200 housing units, according to housing needs assessments conducted by Bowen National Research.
