Foliage forecast: Here’s when Holland can expect to see peak fall colors

HOLLAND — It’s officially fall, and Michiganders are already starting to wonder when the leaves will hit their stride.

When will peak color hit Holland?

While it’s impossible to predict exactly when peak color will arrive, an interactive map from smokymountains.com gives us a pretty good idea.

West Michigan, including Ottawa County and Allegan County, could truly start to see fall around Oct. 7, when fall colors should be near peak. Primetime for photography and fall fun is expected around Oct. 14.

What about the rest of the state?

The northern Lower Peninsula is also predicted to hit its peak around Oct. 14, while the eastern side of the state is predicted to hit peak earlier, around Oct. 7.

By Oct. 21, most of the state should be past its picturesque period and well on the way to bare branches.
