Zeeland Public Schools breaks ground on new tennis courts, fields and more

ZEELAND — Construction on the latest athletics addition to Zeeland Public Schools began with a groundbreaking Wednesday, Sept. 25.

District officials, school board members, coaches, students, members of the construction team and others gathered at the campus of Zeeland East and Zeeland West to celebrate the start of the project.

“We are thrilled to mark today as the start of a new and exciting chapter for our students, our schools and our community,” said Superintendent Brandi-Lyn Mendham. “This complex will be more than just new fields and courts. It will be a hub for teamwork, dedication and school pride to thrive.”

The project stems from the district’s 2021 bond campaign. It’s slated for completion in the spring of 2026.

In total, the build includes 16 new tennis courts — eight each for Zeeland East and Zeeland West. There will also be two new fields, one for each school, used for soccer and lacrosse, plus a concession stand, bleachers, team rooms, an athletic trainer’s room and an officials’ room.
