GRPD: Suspect in custody after stabbing, standoff

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman who holed up in a West Side home after a stabbing surrendered peacefully after an about three-hour standoff, Grand Rapids police said.

The situation started around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday on Maplegrove Drive NW off Leonard Street, west of Covell Avenue. Police said around 5:45 p.m. that the woman had given herself up and was taken into custody without further incident.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says a man was stabbed and taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The woman then refused to come out of the house, where she was alone. A News 8 crew heard police using a megaphone to call for her.

Leonard was shut down between West End and Parmalee avenues while emergency responders were on the scene, police said , but was expected to reopen shortly after 6 p.m.
