Speeding motorcyclist killed in Plainfield Township crash

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A motorcyclist has died after a crash Saturday night in Plainfield Township.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened just after 7 p.m. Saturday on Plainfield Avenue near 4 Mile Road.

A 21-year-old man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle and heading southbound on Plainfield at a high rate of speed when he struck a car.

“Despite lifesaving efforts and being transported to an area hospital for treatment, (the man) succumbed to his injuries,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old woman from Grand Rapids, was not injured. The Plainfield Township Fire Department and LIFE EMS also responded to the scene.
