Care center near Lowell aims to keep seniors independent

LOWELL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Care Resources location near Lowell opened its doors Saturday after ground was broken last October .

The 16,500-square-foot facility is expanding the reach of Care Resources into northeast Kent county, with a focus on helping seniors stay in their homes while getting the care they need — seniors like Terrie Hoag, who uses the nonprofit’s transportation service to get to the Grand Rapids location.

“We have all kinds of games. We have activities, doctors and nurses. And everybody is right there, so it helps a lot,” she said.

While the facility feels like a senior center, it provides much more with wraparound services like transportation, mental and physical health care and nutrition services to eligible seniors.

The new location means Hoag is closer to home and can keep up with other things she likes to do.

“I have different activities here, too — Lowell Senior Center,” she said “I go to church and whatever else is going on.”
