Plane makes emergency landing at Ford Airport after ‘burning smell’

CASCADE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — An airplane had to make an emergency landing at Ford Airport Sunday night after a “burning smell” was reported in the cabin, an airport spokesperson confirmed.

The Allegiant Air flight had taken off from Gerald R. Ford International Airport near Grand Rapids headed for Orlando Sanford International Airport in Florida. Around 6:12 p.m., a “burning smell” was reported in the plane’s cabin area, a spokesperson for the airport said.

The plane was rerouted back to Ford Airport and landed safely, the spokesperson confirmed.

After landing, the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting team and mutual aid partners responded to make sure both plane and passengers were OK. No injuries were reported, according to the spokesperson.

It’s not clear what caused the burning smell.
