Woman charged with padlocking victim into storage unit before deadly fire

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — A woman who died in a storage unit fire last month had been trapped, padlocked in from the outside, with no way to escape and no way to call for help, according to court records.

The woman who was using the storage unit has been charged with manslaughter and unlawful imprisonment.

The fire on Nov. 7 at Broadmoor Self-Storage killed 33-year-old Corinne Abosamra, originally from Ann Arbor.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Morgan Wingeier, who, in court records, lists an address in Delton.

Court records show that Abosamra had been trapped inside the unit for more than 10 hours before the fire was reported. She had no working cellphone and no way of communicating with anyone outside.

Wingeier’s mother Nancy Wingeier told News 8 that her daughter and Abosamra were previously in a relationship. She said she has since learned that Abosamra was homeless and that her daughter was allowing her to stay in the unit. The mom told Target 8 she had no idea Abosamra was inside the unit. She said her daughter didn’t kill the victim on purpose.
