Deputies: Chase ends in crash in Plainfield Township; man arrested

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities say a Cedar Springs man was arrested after a police chase ended in a crash in Plainfield Township.

The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said started around 4 a.m. Friday when a deputy tried to pull over a black Chrysler 300 for driving without its headlights on near the intersection of Plainfield and Vista Springs avenues.

The vehicle did not stop and a short chase ensued, but the sheriff’s office said deputies stopped the chase due to weather conditions. A short time later, the Chrysler crashed into a Ford Fusion near 5 Mile Road. The Chrysler tried to drive away but crashed into a stop sign. The driver of the Ford Fusion was not seriously injured, according to the sheriff’s office.

Three people got out of the Chrysler. A 17-year-old Grand Rapids girl was apprehended and taken home. With the use of a drone, a 15-year-old Plainfield Township girl was found in the backyard of a house on Northville Drive. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening and being under the influence of alcohol.
