GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Ice could be on the way Wednesday night, which means by Friday morning, property owners in Grand Rapids will have to have their sidewalks clear or risk an anonymous complaint and possible fine.
The city allows 24 hours after the end of a winter weather event for residents to clear the snow and/or ice off of their public sidewalks before neighbors and passersby can submit anonymous complaints.
If a claim is deemed legitimate, the city will mail a written warning, giving the sidewalk’s trustee 48 hours to get it ice-free. If, upon inspection, the work is not complete, the city will send a contractor to your home and a bill to your mailbox.
If they clear your sidewalk for you, the bill starts at $183 for administrative fees and the first 15 minutes of work. They then tack on another $44 dollars for every subsequent 15 minutes it takes, plus $10 per bag of salt…
