Michigan Food Banks Running Out Of Food Due To Federal Cuts

Michigan’s food banks are facing unprecedented challenges as recent federal funding cuts threaten their ability to serve the state’s most vulnerable populations. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has terminated two key programs—the Local Food for Schools Cooperative Agreement Program (LFS) and the Local Food Purchase Assistance Cooperative Agreement Program (LFPA)—collectively cutting over $1 billion in federal spending. These programs were instrumental in enabling schools and food banks to procure food from local farms and ranchers.
