GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Postal workers and supporters gathered in downtown Grand Rapids on Sunday as part of a national movement against reported efforts to privatize the U.S. Postal Service.
The Associated Press reports that President Donald Trump in December mused about privatizing the service, which is an independent entity. Last month, Trump said he was considering an executive branch takeover of the USPS in an effort to reduce its losses.

Sunday’s rally at Calder Plaza was one of more than 200 demonstrations nationwide, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers. Workers say privatization could lead to job cuts, reduced services and higher costs for Americans, specifically those in rural areas.
“This is not only our livelihood,” said Terry Lockett, a letter carrier from Holland. “This is the livelihood of every American who receives mail, even though they might not want the mail. This is important that they stay connected with the country and their families.”…
