Michigan Woman Extradited, Charged for $52K Facebook Marketplace Fraud in Volusia County

A Michigan woman has been extradited and charged in Volusia County following an elaborate Facebook Marketplace fraud scheme that tricked an Orange City resident out of $52,000. The woman, identified as 59-year-old Demetria Latimer, allegedly created a fake sale of an excavator, swindling the Florida local. According to the WESH report, Sheriff Mike Chitwood and his team used bank records and other tools to locate Latimer outside of Detroit.

Upon her arrival in Florida, which was recorded and shared by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, Latimer was greeted by Sheriff Chitwood with a confrontational “Welcome to Florida,” as captured in a video posted online.
