This day in Michigan Weather: The April 11, 1965 Palm Sunday Tornado Outbreak

Sixty years ago today, several Michigan towns were changed forever in what is arguably the state’s worst tornado outbreak.

On April 11, 1965, the Palm Sunday tornado outbreak struck the Great Lakes region, dropping 37 tornadoes across six states ,  including 17 rated F4 on the original Fujita scale — four of which occurred in Michigan. The state saw between seven and 14 tornadoes that day, with reports varying due to the limitations of technology at the time.
