Ford Presidential Museum’s new exhibit focuses on Vietnam War

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A new exhibit opening at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum later this month is focused on the Vietnam War.

“Casting Light: Photographs of the Vietnam War,” which will be on display from April 21 through Dec. 14, captures the realities of the war, including the experiences of those who served, protested and endured the consequences of war. It features iconic and thought-provoking images captured by photojournalists and military photographers, including President Ford’s White House photographer.

During the conflict, the U.S. military allowed more documentation than ever before, the museum said in a release. It had been dubbed ‘The Living Room War,’ as Americans at home could watch the fighting unfold on their screens, influencing public opinion.

“This exhibit is an opportunity to reflect on a pivotal era in our nation’s history,” Brooke Clement, director of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum, said in a release. “President Ford played a crucial role in the final chapter of the war and managing the aftermath. Through these photographs, we hope to foster a deeper understanding of the War’s impact.”…
