PLAINWELL, Mich. — A bystander near a street was killed in a chain-reaction crash that ended with the at-fault vehicle landing in a lake.
The crash happened Saturday evening on Baseline Road, near Baseline Lake, west of the city of Plainwell in Allegan County. Police say a pickup truck crossed the centerline and side-swiped another vehicle. That collision forced it to careen off the road and into a group of people standing nearby off the roadway. One of those bystanders was killed while others were treated at a hospital.
After hitting the crowd, the truck rolled, hit a tree and ended up in a shallow area of Baseline Lake. The driver and passenger in the at-fault vehicle were hurt. People in the car that was sideswiped were not hurt…
