Grand Rapids Fire Department opens hiring window

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Grand Rapids Fire Department has opened an application window, looking for individuals interested in joining the team.

Grand Rapids firefighters start with a full-time salary of nearly $53,000 plus benefits. The job, however, comes with several requirements and risks.

Construction to start on GRFD training center this summer

“Firefighters … perform general duty work under emergency conditions, including firefighting, emergency medical response and fire prevention,” the department said in a news release . “Candidates must be ready to operate under hazardous conditions and demonstrate strong physical and mental fitness.”

All applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. All applicants must also have a valid driver’s license and at least 20/100 uncorrected vision or at least 20/30 corrected vision. No applicants with felony convictions and even certain misdemeanor convictions will be considered…
