KENT CITY, Mich. — Federal grants for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), were terminated last week as part of a broader round of federal budget cuts.
“According to the notices, the three grants to National CASA/GAL are being terminated because they ‘no longer effectuate the program goals or agency priorities,’” the statement read. “Which includes ‘protecting American children.’ Since that is in fact the mission of the CASA/GAL program, we strongly disagree with the decision to terminate the grants.”
CASA supports children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect by connecting them with trained volunteer advocates. Volunteers help children navigate the court while helping judges better understand a child’s case…
