A developer and a Grand Rapids title agency have nearly sealed up the public funding component of a large mixed-use housing project that could potentially house workers or serve as a recruitment tool.
Pinnacle Construction Group and Sun Title Agency received brownfield development and work plan approval on May 1 from the Grand Rapids Brownfield Redevelopment Authority in support of The Horizon, a 171-unit mixed-use apartment project first announced last year at 301 and 385 Leonard St. NE. The project is being developed on Sun Title’s 3.4-acre property at the corner of Leonard Street and Lafayette Avenue NE.
The east side of the site will continue to house Sun Title’s office and a commercial kitchen that the YMCA leases out of the building. A new 130,000-square-foot, five-story mixed-use building will rise on the western 2 acres that are currently vacant.
