GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The TSA is preparing for changes on the eve of enforcement for REAL ID compliance. They say they have a plan to make sure everything continues to run smoothly for those who have gotten their updated identification.
Starting Wednesday, May 7, people hoping to pass through TSA security checkpoints for domestic flights will need to have REAL ID — marked by a gold star in the top right corner of a driver’s license.

“This was a rec that came out of the 9/11 commission,” Jessica Mayle with TSA Great Lakes told News 8. “We really want to have one national set of security standards for IDs that have fraud measures built in, anti-counterfeiting measures built in. It’s really about identity verification making sure the person standing at the checkpoint is the person on the ID.”
For everyone who has their REAL ID, or a valid U.S. passport, it should be smooth sailing for flights after the deadline…
