Grand Rapids board delays vote on homeless service center’s controversial move to Leonard Street

The Grand Rapids Planning Commission has delayed its decision on whether a nonprofit that serves the homeless and housing insecure can relocate to a bigger space on the west side’s Leonard Street commercial corridor.

Matthew’s House Ministry’s request to move from a west side neighborhood to 1050 Leonard St. NW has drawn a mixed response from hundreds of residents and businesses in recent weeks. Supporters say the expanded capacity is needed, while critics claim the move would harm existing businesses.
