Two more tornadoes confirmed in Barry and Ottawa counties

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — An additional two tornadoes have been confirmed in Barry and Ottawa counties from Thursday’s storms.

According to the National Weather Service, an EF1 tornado touched down in Barry County near Heron Pointe. The tornado had estimated winds around 100 miles per hour and stayed on the ground for 6.75 miles.

The tornado crossed the most southern part of Gun Lake and moved northeast near Otis Sanctuary. Damage included several trees down and homes with minor roof damage. Several docks in Gun Lake saw damage as well.

The second tornado touched down in Zeeland Township in Ottawa County. The EF0 tornado produced winds of 75 miles per hour and remained on the ground for 3.5 miles.

While surveying, the National Weather Service came across several damaged buildings and downed trees. Neither tornado resulted in any fatalities or injuries.

With these two additional tornadoes, the Michigan’s total count for Thursday is now up to 11. The state’s tornado count for the year has now reached 27, placing it among the top 10 most active tornado years in Michigan history…
