If you’ve driven past downtown Grand Rapids lately and noticed fencing, equipment, and a whole lot of activity around the David D. Hunting YMCA: don’t panic. Despite the construction chaos caused by the incoming soccer stadium, the downtown Y is not closing its doors.
As work ramps up on the new 8,500-seat Amway Soccer Stadium, YMCA officials are reminding members that the building is staying open and fully operational throughout the project. Which means you’ll see fencing near the front of the YMCA as crews begin to install a temporary pedestrian bridge over the entrance area.

In fact, there are no plans to close during construction, which is expected to continue until spring 2027…
