LANSING, Mich. — Two Michigan communities will receive state funding to transform vacant properties into housing and community spaces under a bipartisan redevelopment program, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Wednesday.
The Revitalization and Placemaking program is providing $1.53 million in grants for projects in Hastings and Coldwater that are expected to create 140 housing units and generate more than $34.8 million in total investment.
In Downtown Hastings, a $921,510 grant will support redevelopment of two mostly vacant parcels into a three-story building with 135 rental units and a 15,080-square-foot community and arts center. The $33.6 million project will be built across from the Thornapple River near walking trails.
