Talk about a comeback! After closing its doors in 2008, an authentic Mexican restaurant in Grand Rapids is back in business—and making mouths water all over again.
I always like to keep an eye out for new local eateries to try. On social media I saw mention of a new spot called El Burrito Gigante that recently opened. After checking them out on Facebook, I realized this isn’t just a new spot—it’s a revival!
A Look Back Grand Rapids’ Original El Burrito Gigante
A bit of digging revealed that the original El Burrito Gigante was located at 524 Division Ave S. in Grand Rapids in the early 2000s. Here’s a Google Street View of the location from 2007:
According to a video from the owners, they were serving up giant burritos and more from 2001 until they closed in 2008. That original location is now home to another Mexican eatery, Tacos El Cunado.
El Burrito Returns After 17 Years
But after 17 years, El Burrito Gigante is officially back! Following a few pop-up events earlier this year, they’ve reopened in a new location: 5524 Division Ave S. in Kentwood, with a grand opening earlier this month.
