Statewide enforcement campaign aims to curb speeding

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Law enforcement agencies across the state will crack down on speeding next month.

According to the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, speed plays a role in about one-third of traffic fatalities. The state recorded 21,357 speed-involved crashes in 2023. That’s down 32% from 2019 — but authorities say the number is still too high.

“Even though speed-related crashes and fatalities are down, there are still too many drivers who put everyone at risk by speeding and driving recklessly,” said OHSP Director Alicia Sledge in a statement. “We are asking every Michigander to make an effort this summer to slow down.”…
