Grand Rapids bicycle group celebrates summer kickball tradition during weekly ride

WYOMING, Mich. — A few dozen bicyclists put the brakes on their weekly bike ride on Wednesday night to stop at Pinery Park for a spirited game of kickball. The annual event has become a summer tradition for the people who enjoy what’s simply known as the “Wednesday Night Ride.”

Normally, the ride consists of a 10 to 15-mile pedal through different neighborhoods in Grand Rapids. But once per year, the group stops at the halfway point in their ride and plays kickball in the park until it gets dark. They say it’s a great way to take advantage of West Michigan’s late sunsets.
